Call for Participation in the Scientific Conference “Two Centuries of Railways in the World and the Development of Railways in Croatia”

We invite you to the scientific conference entitled “Two Centuries of Railways in the World and the Development of Railways in Croatia”, which will be held on 1 October 2025 in Zagreb.
The conference is organized by the Croatian Institute of History in Zagreb, the Croatian Railway Museum, HŽ Infrastruktura d.o.o., the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb, and the Faculty of Science of the University of Zagreb.

The occasion for this conference is the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the opening of the first public railway for passenger and freight transport between Darlington and Stockton in England in 1825. At the same time, in those years, Josip Kajetan Knežić prepared his first studies and proposals for railway connections in Croatia, which further adds to the significance of this anniversary and opens up space for professional and scholarly discussion on the development of railways in our region.

We invite scholars from the fields of history, transport sciences, political science, economics, sociology, geography, architecture, civil engineering, and other related disciplines to submit their presentation topic and complete the form on the last page of the Call for Papers. Please send applications including the presentation title, an abstract (up to 200 words), keywords (up to five), all provided in Croatian and English, and a short biography (up to 150 words), together with personal details and institutional affiliation, to: josip.kajinic@hzinfra.hr.

The abstract submission deadline is 25 June 2025.
Notifications of accepted presentations will be sent by 15 July 2025.
Further details and the full program will be announced in due course.
