Scientific work program
The scientific and research work of the Croatian Institute of History takes place in the period from 2024 to 2027 within five main methodological and research areas:
historical sources, historiography and digital humanities (publishing critical editions of historical sources and applying innovative methodological models for their interpretative analysis in accordance with contemporary research trends in historical science)
history of society and history of institutions (integrative, interdisciplinary and comparative research of institutional, social phenomena and processes as key factors of the historical and political survival of Croatian countries in a broader regional and international context over a long historical period)
urban history, economic history, environmental history, historical demography and history of intertwining (spatial configurations, social structures, economic, natural and human resources as fundamental factors of sustainable development of Croatian countries over a long historical period)
cultural, intellectual, religious and memorial history (cultural diversity, multiple identities, stereotypes and historical memory as dynamic shaping factors of Croatian historical identity)
- military and war history (history of military-political conflicts and violence, /early/modern and contemporary history of Croatia in the context of aristocratic, authoritarian, totalitarian and democratic governments and transitional processes).
Within these five main methodological and research areas, we have planned to organize project work and temporary thematic scientific and research centers for the next four-year period. All project proposals, in accordance with the HIP Statute, must be previously approved by the Scientific Council, regardless of whether they are competitive projects or internal research projects. The Scientific Council also approves the establishment of temporary thematic scientific and research centers, which are established for the purpose of implementing smaller and professional research goals, mainly in cooperation with state administration units, local self-government units and economic entities. When designing thematic scientific and research centers, the mission of the Institute as determined by the Statute, the (un)researchedness of the topics, the social and scientific need for research on the topic, and the qualifications of the researchers planned to work within the center must certainly be taken into account. The financing of the work of each individual center should be mostly provided by state administration bodies, local self-government units and economic entities. The heads of each thematic scientific research center are determined at regular sessions of the Scientific Council, based on a written proposal for the establishment of an individual scientific research center.
